Cookie Policy
Last Modified: January 22, 2024
This Cookie Policy describes how Verily Life Sciences, LLC (“Verily,” “we” or “us”), an Alphabet Inc. (“Alphabet”) company, uses cookies and other tracking technologies on our digital properties, which includes our websites, mobile applications, online advertisements, digital platforms, online communications (e.g., email), and other digital products and services we control.
In this Cookie Policy, we explain:
The types of tracking technologies we use
What information we collect using these technologies
The purposes for which we use these technologies
How we disclose or make information collected through these technologies available to others
Choices you may have regarding these technologies
A general list of the individual cookies and other trackers we currently use or recently have used
The information in this Cookie Policy supplements our Privacy Policy, which describes our general privacy practices.
Types of Cookies/Tracking Technologies We Use
Verily uses various technologies to collect and store information, including cookies, pixel tags, local storage, such as browser web storage or application data caches, databases, and server logs (which we will collectively refer to as “cookies” in the rest of this Cookie Policy).
- Cookies, which are a type of technology that install a small amount of information on a user's computer or other device when they visit our digital properties.
- Pixels, web beacons, and tags, which are types of code or transparent graphics that contain a unique identifier. In addition to the uses described below, these technologies provide information about interactions with our digital properties (including communications such as email we may send to you) and other third-party properties and help us customize our marketing activities. In contrast to cookies (which are stored on a user's device hard drive), pixels, web beacons, and tags are embedded invisibly on our digital properties.
- Session replay tools, which record your interactions with our digital properties, such as how you move throughout our digital properties and engage with our webforms. In addition to the uses described below, this information helps us improve our digital properties and identify and fix technical issues visitors may be having with our digital properties.
- Embedded scripts and Software Development Kits (“SDKs”), which allow us to build and integrate custom experiences on our digital properties. Embedded scripts are temporarily downloaded onto your device from our web server, or from a third party with which we work, and are active only while you are connected to our digital properties and are deleted or deactivated thereafter. SDKs function like pixels and cookies but operate in the mobile app context. The primary app developer can install pieces of code (the SDK) from partners in the app, which allows the partner to collect certain information about user interaction with the app and information about the user device and network information.
- Local storage refers generally to other places on a browser or device where information can be stored by websites, ads, or third-parties, e.g., HTML5 local storage and browser cache.
We may use both first-party tracking technologies, which are set by us, and third-party tracking technologies, which are set by other parties. Some of the tracking technologies we use may last solely for your browsing session and are deleted when you close your browser, while others are persistent and stored after you close your browser.
Types of Data Collected
The information collected by these tracking technologies may include (a) your internet protocol (IP) address, unique device identifiers, location, browser type, and Internet service provider information; (b) information about when and how you access and use our websites or Services, such as the domains you visit, what features you used and for how long, the website that referred you to us, and date/time stamps associated with your usage; (c) information about the device you use to access the websites or Services, such as device type, device ID, and device/browser settings; and (d) location of the device used to access the websites or Services derived from GPS or WiFi use.
Uses of Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We differentiate between technologies that are essential for the technical features of our digital services and, in certain instances, optional analytics technologies.
Type | Description |
Essential | These are technologies that the digital services need in order to function, and that enable you to move around and use the digital services. Without these essential technologies, the digital services will not perform as smoothly for you as we would like it to, and we may not be able to provide the digital services or certain features you request. Examples of where these cookies are used include: to determine when you are signed in; to determine when your account has been inactive; and for other troubleshooting and security purposes. |
Functional | These are technologies that help enhance performance and functionality. For example, functionality cookies can be used to remember a user's region or remember language preferences and pages and products you have viewed in order to enhance and personalize your experience when you visit our digital services. |
Analytics | Analytics technologies allow us to understand more about how many visitors we have to our digital services, how many times they visit us and how many times a user viewed specific pages within our digital services. Although analytics technologies allow us to gather specific information about the pages that you visit and whether you have visited our digital services multiple times, we cannot use them to find out details such as your name or address. We use Google Analytics. For more information about Google Analytics, please refer to "How Google Uses Information From Sites or Apps that Use Our Services," which can be found at www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/, or any other URL Google may provide from time to time. |
Marketing | We use marketing technologies, including cookies and other conversion tracking tools, to improve the effectiveness of our online marketing efforts (such as advertisements placed on other digital properties you may visit). |
Disclosures of Data
We may disclose data collected through tracking technologies to the following types of recipients or allow the following recipients to directly collect data using tracking technologies:
- Analytics providers (including providers of ad tracking and reporting services);
- Security providers; and
- Other technology providers who act as our service provider.
Your Choices
You can control how we use cookies and other tracking technologies. Please be aware that if you disable the use of tracking technologies, the functionality of our digital properties may be negatively impacted, and certain areas or features may not display or work correctly.
- Preference Center. Depending on your location and applicable laws, we may give you the option of adjusting your preferences about the categories of technologies we use. When this option is available, you can configure your personal settings on our Cookies Banner under “Settings” or via other options that may be available on the relevant digital service. If you use a different device to access the same digital service, you may need to manage your settings for each separate device you use.
- Browser settings. If you want to disable the use of certain specific tracking technologies or remove them from your device, you can disable or delete them using your browser settings. Please be aware that not all tracking technologies can be deleted through browser settings. The following links contain instructions for commonly used browsers:
