Verily welcomes Stephen Gillett as Chief Operating Officer to increase operational excellence

We recently celebrated Verily’s five-year anniversary and reflected on our evolution. This year has brought change we never could have anticipated, and it's been gratifying to see that the solutions we have been developing could play a powerful role in supporting our communities during the pandemic. These include Project Baseline, serving as the data platform to power community-based testing across 15 states with the Baseline COVID-19 Testing Program, and our Health Platforms business, powering a Healthy at Work solution for employers and schools to return their communities to campus.

Over the past five years, Verily has developed a portfolio of programs across life sciences and healthcare, with an emphasis on deep partnership across the ecosystem to commercialize these programs. This remains a cornerstone of our business. At the same time, as we have worked to directly implement our COVID-19 solutions with customers and collaborators, we have reached a stage of maturation where we must meet our R&D excellence with commercial capabilities to scale delivery of our solutions in the marketplace.

Stephen Gillett joined us earlier this year to lead Verily’s effort to establish a Cybersecurity Center of Excellence. I’m now pleased to announce that Stephen will take the role of Chief Operating Officer. Moving forward, Stephen will lead our overall business operations, including development of a modern commercial capability and an end-to-end orchestration between products, services and go-to-market activity for Verily. Most recently, Stephen was the CEO and co-founder of Chronicle, an Alphabet cybersecurity company that is now part of Google Cloud Platform. Prior to Chronicle, he held the COO role at Symantec and led the technological transformation of Starbucks as Chief Information Officer.

“My work with Verily as an executive advisor this year has given me perspective on the extraordinary people at Verily and the opportunity we have to positively impact healthcare for generations to come,” said Stephen. “Now, I’m looking forward to helping Verily reach its full potential by establishing a new level of operational excellence at the company.”

We welcome Stephen as we continue to collaborate closely with our customers and our partners on the solutions that will meet their needs far into the future.
